Good process forms the basis of good communication. This also applies to getting the most out of a meeting, ensuring everyone’s time has been used wisely and effectively, and that the goals of the meeting can be achieved.

The essential ingredients for an effective meeting are: (1) make sure there is an agenda, so everyone can stay focused; (2) make sure the person chairing the meeting is skilled at running meetings; (3) make sure everyone gets a chance to contribute; (4) make sure the chairperson stops the discussion from going in circles; (5) at the end of the meeting agree on what has been achieved and what will happen next; and (6) immediately following the meeting circulate a meeting outcome summary to all that attended.
