It pays to think carefully about the title of your grant application, scientific article or presentation. When a title captures the essence of what you have to say, the reader will (1) have a clear idea of what to expect; (2) feel re-assured when the contents lines up with the title; and (3) be more likely to recollect your message afterwards. Conversely, a poorly chosen title is a lost opportunity to connect with the audience. It has the risk of confusing or misleading the reader, making him/her wonder what the application/article/presentation is all about, and may make them question the care and thought that has gone into its preparation.
